Visit Father Christmas in Lapland

It takes a village – and this one is truly unforgettable.
If your expectations for a Christmas escape are sky-high, Kilpisjärvi, Lapland’s only mountainous resort, will exceed every one of them.
Tucked away in the far north of Finnish Lapland, the tiny village of Kilpisjärvi may move at a relaxed pace, but don’t be fooled by its serene snow-blanketed fells and the quiet hush of the tundra. Beneath the stillness lies a world of excitement, wonder, and adventure. Set beside a vast frozen lake and surrounded by dramatic mountains, Kilpisjärvi offers an even deeper sense of remoteness—an exclusive chance to connect with nature, local life, and some of the most stunning scenery in all of Lapland.
There’s a timeless magic here. Kilpisjärvi is steeped in myth and legend, where ancient stories tell of wise magicians and lovestruck giants who once roamed these lands—now etched forever into the surrounding peaks. That sense of wonder is still alive today, in the shimmer of shooting stars and the swirling dance of the Northern Lights overhead.
A short break of three or four nights in Kilpisjärvi is an unforgettable family Christmas experience. It’s packed with exhilarating Arctic activities—from husky sledding and reindeer rides to high-speed tobogganing that might just remind you of Cool Runnings! (Yes, it’s that fast—faster than a husky team on full throttle!)
Kilpisjärvi is a place where memories are made, legends come to life, and the spirit of Christmas shines brighter than ever.

Kilpisjarvi is set around a large frozen lake which is encircled by a mountainous periphery that stretches to the horizon. It’s the perfect place to relax, and enjoy the gorgeous scenery, or explore the village at your own pace. The conditions also make it ideal for hosting the enticing winter activities included in our Dashing Through the Snow holiday.
The best way to really take it in, of course, is by foot, which should be kept warm in a snow boot. We offer our own special guides and tours – and safaris are full-length safaris, not ‘taster sessions’, giving you the opportunity to enjoy longer trails and journeys on the experiences.
Chances for play time in the snow are plentiful; zoom down the toboggan slope or challenge the family to a snowball fight! But please keep it friendly, we don’t want a snowball war breaking out!
Places are strictly limited, however, to preserve the authenticity of this magical part of the world, so book early to avoid disappointment!

Will We Be Able to Give Santa a Personal Message?
Yes. Prior to your holiday, you can complete Santa's Wishlist, allowing Santa to learn a little about the children in your party before your visit. This should be completed no later than five days before your departure date.
Is This Suitable for Infants and Toddlers?
Due to the extreme winter temperatures, these trips are not recommended for infants under two years old. Children aged three and four years typically love the magical atmosphere and festive experiences, although some activities may have age restrictions and may not be suitable for very young children.
What Should I Wear?
Winter temperatures in Lapland can fall as low as -40°C, so dressing appropriately is essential. A thermal all-in-one snow suit and snow boots are provided on arrival, but guests should also bring:
Thermal base layers
Warm jumpers or fleeces
Hat and scarf
Waterproof gloves or mittens
Multiple pairs of warm socks
Layering is the best way to stay comfortable in Arctic conditions, particularly for children spending extended periods outdoors.
Can Our Group See Santa at the Same Time?
Santa's cosy log cabin can accommodate a maximum of seven guests at one time. Larger groups may therefore need to be divided into smaller parties for their visit. If you are travelling with other families but would prefer separate visits with Santa, this must be requested at the time of booking or at least two weeks before departure. Requests cannot be guaranteed if made after arrival in resort.
